Mistakes you make only once

Today when I was carrying the trash out, I saw the bottom fall out of my neighbor's bag.

No, I didn't laugh. I really wanted to. It was almost coming out, but I felt bad for him because I've been there.

He had a white bag he was carrying out. The city of Charleston gives you garbage bags that are black, so I don't know if he was out or just not using them, but I mean, I use them because they're free and they don't suck.

But I started thinking ... buying cheap garbage bags is a mistake you make only once. While some mistakes you'll make over and over again, you learn that lesson really quickly.

What are some other ones? Feel free to add to this list ... I'm developing an idea here.

Only once did I test the limits of the old bus circuits in my apartment.
It's so old, I don't just flip a breaker, I have to buy these little glass top guys and put them in the box which is inconveniently, scarily placed in a crowded back closet with no light.
I pay real close attention to how many things I have plugged in at once now. Heating my bathroom, watching the news and microwaving bacon cannot all happen at once.

My parents' house is kind of like that with their electric. I learned that when I spent that week up there. You can't microwave something, use the blender and run the dishwasher and the TV at the same time. It just doesn't like it.

superheating leftovers that don't smell so good thinking that will kill the living thing that's making the smell. ay, chihuahua.

Oh, yeah. That's really true. You don't do that twice.

I hate leftovers. I know that makes me un-American, but I do. I LOATHE them.

Never buy cheap mascara, or cheap aluminum foil.

I can think of about 30 of these, but I'll stop there. :)

Oh, I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THAT. Yes. I bought cheap eye makeup for Halloween and then thought, "eh, I'll use it because I'm thrifty and don't want it to go to waste" and I looked like Ozzy by 10 a.m.

Good call.

And yes about the foil ... my Mom and I roshambo about cheap foil all the time.

Well, that's what he gets for being literal white trash.
